What has changed with EagleMail?
EagleMail has been moved to Live@edu. Live@edu is a cloud based service provided by Microsoft that offers many more features than FGCU could ever hope to provide (on-premise) without spending hundreds of thousands of dollars. Live@edu provides Students and Alumni with 10GB mailboxes, 25GB of online storage, enhanced calendaring and collaboration, and improved mobile device support.
What do I have to do for the switch?
On or after 1/3/12 you will need to re-activate your account by following the instructions on the main page before you can sign-in to EagleMail. You should also note that your username will now be your entire email address (e.g. email@example.com) and your email address will not change. You will need your UIN and PIN to re-activate your account.
I don't have my UIN/PIN or forgot them, what should I do?
You will need to contact the Office of the Registrar. They are located in McTarnaghan Hall room 116 and their phone number is (239) 590-7980. You can also e-mail them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I forgot my username or email address.
If you forgot your username or email address you can get them by changing your password. Enter the required information on this page and at the confirmation screen you will be given your account information.
Your username for EagleMail is your entire email address.
I forgot my password.
You must change your password by using the Change Password Page.
What happens if I delete an email by accident from the new system?
When you delete an email in EagleMail it goes to the Deleted Items folder. Mail in the Deleted Items folder will stay there permanently until you remove it again from within Deleted Items. Once you remove something from Deleted Items it will go into a special folder called "Recover Deleted Items". You can access this folder by right-clicking on Deleted Items within EagleMail. Mail inside Recover Deleted Items stays there for 14 days. After 14 days the mail is gone permanently and there is no way to recover it. Be very careful when emptying your Deleted Items folder or individually removing mail.
Live@edu offers numerous benefits for students. Live@edu also integrates with the existing back-end infrastructure that FGCU has in place. This will allow us to better serve Students, Faculty, and Staff by being more flexible and capable of providing additional functionality later. Using Live@edu also helps students prepare for the future as a large majority of organizations use Outlook and Microsoft Office, which are what Live@edu provides in a web platform. The look and feel of Office software will be very familiar once FGCU Alumni begin their careers!
What does "cloud" based mean?
In technology terms, a "Cloud" is a shared computing environment made up of servers and storage that are hosted at a provider's data center(s). In this case, Microsoft has several large data centers around the country that will hold the servers and the storage needed to operate the new EagleMail system.
What is the maximum size for attachments?
Maximum attachment size is 25MB in EagleMail. However, recipients on other systems may not be able to receive emails that large. For anything over 5MB, consider using SkyDrive to share your file. For information on SkyDrive, please visit the Help section.
What is SkyDrive?SkyDrive is like a USB flash drive you can't lose! It's 7GB of cloud based storage where you can store any file you would like. You can share these files with anyone and use it to collaborate. SkyDrive can be accessed via the Web after logging into EagleMail from any computer.
