Situation:
You cannot see the subject for messages when using Open WebMail to access your Eagle account and you want to correct this problem without disabling Ad Blocking in Norton Personal Firewall.
If you are using Norton Internet Security 2005
please see the NIS 2005 Instructions here:
http://eagle.fgcu.edu/nis2005.html
Solution:
This problem happens when either the address (URL) for the Web page or the Web page programming (HTML) includes some text that indicates the page may be an advertisement or include an advertisement. The text is called an HTML string. When Norton Internet Security (NIS) detects one of these HTML strings, NIS prevents the Web page from being displayed or prevents part of the Web page from being displayed.
To permit your Internet browser to display the Web page or the missing parts of the Web page, configure the NIS Advanced Options to override Ad Blocking for the affected Web sites. This process requires creating a rule that permits the HTML string for that Web site. See the section "To create the rule."
To create the rule:
-
Open NIS
- Open the list of Web sites:
NIS 2003: Click Options. An options or properties dialog box appears. It has a tab titled "Web Content."
NIS 2002: Click Options, then click Internet Security, then click Advanced Options. An options or properties dialog box appears. It has a tab titled "Web."
NIS 2001: Click Options, then click Advanced Options. An options or properties dialog box appears. It has a tab titled "Web."
- Click the Web (or Web Content) tab. You see the Advanced Options dialog box:
- Click Add Site. The "New Site/Domain" dialog box appears:
- Type the site or domain name for the Web page that you want to configure NIS for, in this instance it is eagle.fgcu.edu , and then click OK. After you click OK, the new site appears highlighted in the site list in the left frame.
- In the right frame, click Add. The Add HTML string window appears
- Type the HTML string that you want allowed, and then select Permit. In the following example, the HTML string is "cgi-bin/openwebmail/ "
- Click OK. The HTML string now appears on the Ad Blocking tab.
- Click Apply, and then click OK
- Close the Internet browser
When you next open the Internet browser and login to your EagleMail, the missing subject lines should now appear.
